First off I know this is not the proper thread for what information I am seeking. I have gone to the proper thread and I only get change to a Weber or hot rod information.
I have a 83 Ranger 2.3. All stock and original except for normal care. It has DS2 ing. and I have had the dist. re curved. Is this the same carb that is used on the 4.9 six cyl.? I am thinking of going to a non feed back car. Any info. and suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks Rodger

Go to a auto parts store website like Oreilly Auto. Look up the carburetor for your vehicle and note the models, part numbers, etc.

Then do the same for an early model f150 (prior to the feedback carburetors) and note the same. If you find one that works in both cases, there you go.

Is your Ranger setup for a 1 barrel carburetor? In what configuration (mounting holes, throat, throttle linkage, etc).

Going to non-feedback is pretty simple, at least it was for me. New carburetor, new distributor and coil (a DUI distributor in my case). Got rid of most emissions and computer.

Thanks for the reply.
They show the later model Ranger came with a non feed back carb. It is a 1 barrel. Did you notice any improvement?
Thanks Rodger

In my case, the feedback carburetor as well as some of the emissions parts were worn out, non-functioning and causing problems.

I got rid of the computer, all the solenoids and the mass of wire harness that the computer used. I had to convert the EVAP to vacuum control, like it was before the computers came out.

I replaced the carburetor and also got rid of the distributor (since it was computer controlled) and installed a DUI (HEI) ignition.

It starts on first turn and runs perfect. Much better than it did. It used to have a stumble, a miss at idle, and sometimes didn't want to start at all.

Well worth the conversion in my case.
