Is the Chrome ashtray a Ford part?
No, it was only available painted.

Found a no weld solution

However, if I may share my experiences, you might want to consider these thoughts.
'68-'72 columns look almost identical to the '66 and earlier ones. You will need only to swap the the '72 for the '66 steering column support bracket (that bolts the column to the dash) to make it look identical. Further, if you remove the **** at the top of the column shaft, you can use your '66 steering wheel.
The '73-'79 columns will work well, and the '78-'79 ones may have tilt.
In both cases, the wiring will need to be rearranged in the column to work with the '66 harness, but several of us have the pinouts, and it is not hard to do.
I used a '72 column, put in a new turn signal switch and used my '66 steering wheel. Looks pretty good.
Just my thoughts, and best of luck.
I got to thinking about my '66 A Code Convertible. I took it out of the car to repainted it. I remembered that the steering column mounting bracket is separate from the tube so I took some measurements and it will work fine. I just have to mark the hole in the center of the bracket radius onto the tube. Drillout the spot welds and remove bracket from the '73 F350 tube. After the tube is installed in the '66 F100 then I can put the clamp from the Mustang on and mark and drill a small hole in the tube where the locator tab on the clamp sits. No weld solution.
When I am ready to do the power steering and disc brake swap I'll take pictures of the process if I can figure out how to post pics.
