E4OD clicking noise
Hi all,
1994 F350 460 E40D 34kmi
I recently pulled my transmission and replaced the leaky pump seal. After a week or so of driving, I noticed a ticking sound when the truck is moving... in 1,2,3 gear, not in 4th, the ticking goes with the speed of the transmission, not the engine, and if I coast in neutral it also does not make the noise.
I have done another fluid flush and filter change and notice no particulates in the oil, but the clicking/knocking is getting louder.
Do I have a torque converter failure going on? I have heard that it only locks in 4th gear, and that is the only time it doesn't make the noise while in motion.
Thanks for any advice, I don't know where to look.

So if you hold the vehicle at a steady speed with the brakes, and give it some gas to unlock the converter, the clicking stays the same?
If it goes away in 4th, I suspect something may be wrong with the overdrive section of the transmission, which is in direct in 1-3rd, and overdrives in 4th. It may possibly be a failing one-way sprag clutch.
When its clicking, try pushing the O/D cancel button, and see if it stops.

Thanks lead head.
No matter what I do in 1-3, the clicking is there. Soon as it shifts into OD the clicking goes away. When I take it out of OD, the clicking comes back. It shifts perfect besides the head turning chatter it makes through town.
This would be transmission related and not the torque converter correct? My thought is that the torque converter would do it in every gear.
