CV Swap Power Steering Questions

hello all, new to the the forum and i have some questions about my truck. first off it is a 63 f100 with the older bed on it from the 57-60 body styles. It has an automatic FMX type trans and a 289ci motor from a 65 Galaxy in it. Truck runs great but i am in the process of doing a crown vic front clip swap on it and need to add a power steering pump and a brake booster and master cylinder to it. i don't know what i can get for a power steering pump and if all the 289,302, and 351 used all the same pumps? as for the master cylinder I'm going to try and get a 73-79 f250 one that had disc front and drum back to match my application. any help would be great on the power steering pump though.

1957/60 Styleside beds installed on the following 1961/66's:

1961/65 F100/250 4WD - 1961/66 F350 - 1962/63 F100/250 2WD - 1966 F250 4WD

No FMX's until 1969. 1963 Galaxie 289 has (depending if a column or floor shift), either the Ford-O-Matic 2 speed, or FX Cruise-O-Matic.

289 introduced in 1963, initially installed in Galaxie & Fairlane/Meteor.

1953/64, some 1965's use the Eaton P/S pump that has the reservoir either bolted to the top of it, or remotely mounted on the fender apron if A/C (1961/64) is present.

1965/77 Ford P/S pumps have a steel reservoir, P/S pressure hose threads onto the pump.

1978 and later Ford P/S pumps have a plastic reservoir, P/S pressure hose connects to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.

2003: First year that Crown Vic/Grand Marquis have rack & pinion steering. 1979/2002's have worm and roller steering.

FTE member garbz2 (Dave) is the one to ask inre to what P/S & disc brake parts can be swapped to a 1963 F100 w/a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis front suspension.

I'm not Dave, but I can tell you what I did on my 65 2wd. I pulled the mounting bracket and pump off of a 68 F100 then went to NAPA and purchased a reman pump to replace the one from the salvage yard (used it as a core). I then took the hoses off of the CV cradle and took them in to a hydraulic hose builder (McCoy is one of the ones here) and had them modify the hoses to fit the pump.

Yea but my truck has the 289 in it. Will getting that bracket and pump work on my motor?

If you find a truck/car that has a 289 in it, you can use the bracket and pump from it. The pump and bracket shouldn't care what they are in, just that they are mounted to a small block. Also, make sure your crank pulley has enough grooves to run the belt to the pump. You should be able to remove all of the pulleys from the donor. I neglected to note that on my original post. My apologies. The crank pulley off of my donor had a different bolt pattern on it than my truck. I solved that by matching up the two pulleys and re-clocking the bolt holes

Good answer on the PS and how to hook it up.

On another note I would also add i personally would never recommend a CV swap to anyone. Aluminum castings bolted to flexing ladder type frames is just a matter of math until cyclic metal fatigue failure.

Thanks for the complement on the PS post. I understand your point on the CV install. But technically your only using the frame as a locator. When you do the swap you use weld the crush tubes that come out of the CV to the frame so that it clamps to itself.
