How rare is my F150

It most likely is the insert that is rotating. This is very common but easy to fix. The insert can be very carefully pried out with a thin screwdriver. Make sure the shift **** is warm so it is more flexible and there is less chance of leaving marks. After it is out, you will see where the insert sits on the core of the shifter ****. Just use some silicone or epoxy on the mating surface and put it back together.

I had the option to buy an identical truck to that with similar miles last year. After driving a '95 K1500 with a 5.0L 5spd for a few years, I bought an XL base model '07 with the 4.6 but otherwise optioned how I would have ordered the truck new ( vinyl floors, manual Tcase, roll up windows but cruise, tilt and A/C with cloth seats )
The M/T truck phase came and went.. put it in drive and go, it's not a sports car.. I've had multiple M/T Ford rangers but same deal, if I'm towing or anything, I'd rather not have to worry about a clutch

I learned something too - I thought the shift pattern was cast into the rubber ****.

I'm starting to feel that way too. If I ever get another new full-size truck it will be an auto. Its really moot because they don't offer the manual anymore and probably never will again so there's no longer any decision involved. <!-- / message -->
