88 f250 460 Rear main seal

Hey guys,

I gotta do a rear main on my truck. Looking for a lil heads up. Can I drop the pan without lifting motor? Just want to be prepared if I have to. I done some at work but whole different setup.

If your truck is 4x4 you are going to be pulling the engine.
4x2 has a little more room, but you will still hit the intake on the firewall.
There's no way to do it sitting on the engine mounts.
You have to drop the crank any how. ..

Even with a 4x2 I don't think you can get the pan out of the way of the rear main cap without lifting the motor way up anyway. Unbolt in the sump gives more room but it creates it's own problems. It's more work to pull the motor but it's the only good way to do it and not knock a bunch of gunk into the pan.

You need to drop the crank, not just the rear cap.
Fishing that freaking seal in there is impossible under the truck.

Man, I wish you could just drive them in from the back.
