Marine blowers are noisy....I mentioned it earlier....but they are compact and can move a lot of air thru a 2" or 3" opening. Also look for the collectors that are used with the tubing for intake or exhaust for marine blowers.

access 'squirrel cage fans'

I have one at $100, reasonable size and current draw...the E has a 200amp alternator with 2 aux batts an chargers an $$$ an...

I haven't cut a hole in the FLOOR yet as the problem is out west with cargo area sucking dirt an farm pesticides off the road. Fan's capacity exhausts cargo in 4-5 minutes. And I hope leaves the cockpit in a sucked out mode.

Before crossing Monterey, the rear doors are sealed with an inside gasket of Walmart painter's tarp..I assume conditions are not improving.

If you drill holes in the fan's outlet rectangle then saw saw saw. Paint n build up a bead of urethane or silicone sealant, bolt the fan down....crack open a window.

A HD $olution. Not buying a fan for $39. I have a $39 DC fan and yes, the weenie fan does improve my situation thus the move to heavy force.

Pointing the fan at an open window is critical.

Mount a fan in polycarbonate and replace the window glass.

If/when you get an idea cost of those shades please let us know. Along with my E250 a '99 Volvo S80-T6 beater car's leather interior could use them as well.

FWIW that type shield is very prominent in the aircraft/aviation sector too.

another vent fan idea

Check this one out...

Replaced rear window with tinted automotive grade plastic, and installed powered vent fan, to keep the dogs cool.

I had one of those fans in my 72 E300, with a camper top.
It was reversible for suck, or blow.
It gave up after a few years, though but was the best choice at the time.
I put a couple of 2x4's across the inside and stored by bike up out of view.

Thanks for all thoughts and ideas, gents.

Yes, I have been wondering about how to make sure air flow doesn't bypass the dogs. I think license plate insert is a good idea, and maybe I can pop a hole somewhere else at back of van so a big old Maxxaire in the roof just behind driver would pull a bunch of air the length of the cargo bay past and through all of the dog crates near the floor and then out the roof.

The other way i was thinking was a fan in the rear door pulling air from the front two side pop-out windows to the back and then out.....that way I don't face that moment of truth with the jigsaw.....
