It doesn't take long for them to get dirty does it! Mine looked good when I first got it finished. Every once in a while I get in there and try to wipe stuff down. I'll smooth the welds on my IC pipes and repaint them for RRE though!

Looking at Glenn's nice clean engine bay just reminded me of a question I have been meaning to ask. Assuming I'll hit 30+psi of boost and be running a chip, do I need a "boost fooler" (I.e. Regulator). I had always thought one wasn't needed as long as you run a chip, but recently read somewhere that the MAP can be damaged by too much pressure.

I didn't see one in Glenn's setup so I'm guessing not...

Im running one in my truck because its a cali truck, i remember reading about it and thinking it was a good idea.. Something with throwing a cel but i can remember if there were any other undesireables the truck would have w/out one... Iirc generally its a superduty thing...

This is when I first got it together. I installed a boost fooler, its behind the alternator in front of the black boot. It didn't do any good so I took it off. Its behind my back seat incase I need it. I can get 40lb boost so I guess the chip takes care of it. By the way, those are the straight boots I got from Irate that I replaced and double clamped the one on the right.

Iirc Jody and Justin said they could keep it from defueling in an overboost condition but id have to use a boost fooler to keep it from throwing a CEL.. Make sense? Course i think the condition is perhaps specific to a cali truck and superduty..

I should point out that this boost fooler was from Dieselsite. In the picture it shows a looped line on top which is a by pass vac line to disable the boost fooler. I was experimenting with it and with out it being used. The line on the left can be used to a gauge that will show what the map is seeing. The line on the right can be used to a gauge to show actual boost. You can go to their site and read about it. I never set a over boost code so don't use it. Then again, is my PCM defueling because of over boost and not setting a code? IDK I have struggled with this for a couple years now.

Of course - not as simple an answer as I was hoping for :-)

Thanks for the info though. Ill have to read up. I'll prob start without and just see what happens.

I see that you moved your map line from the y-pipe to the outlet of the turbo since the initial setup as well. Won't that give a higher pressure reading?

Yes but I always read that the map line should be in the hot side of the IC pipes for better throttle response. I'm now using the two Y pipe ports for my water injection, the top one water and the bottom one in a vac line to the water injection controller that increases water supply injection according to boost psi. I have it set up now to come on at 10 psi boost and progressively get stronger as boost increases.

Glenn, gotta ask you this - is your intake side pipe custom as well (off the filter to the turbo)? I only have a short stub of hard pipe, then a longer rubber boot (or at least appears as such) to the turbo.

That makes sense. I was thinking I'd run it on the cold side a while and see how I like it. I figure it may keep smoke levels down a bit to read the lower boost numbers (with same oxygen levels) on the colder side. Def should be a slightly slower throttle response though. Did you find it noticeable though - going from cold to hot side?

Yes, its from Irate. Its been thru a few changes. In that one photo you can see a 6637 filter on it. In this photo you can see that I shortened it so I could fit a 'turbo muffer' in there. Travis told me about the later Fords and Dodges having this so I bought one from a Dodge off of ebay. I got lucky with the plumbing and was able to fit it right in there with my AFE filter. The AFE filter and housing around it helped with the turbo whistle. I called Travis and thanked him because that muffer really keeps the turbo whistle down. This was all done when I tore everything apart and did the soundproofing to keep my wife happy. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...dproofing.html

Not a big change but I did notice better throttle response.

I'm running a boost fooler. I had to, I kept setting a code without one. No problems since. In this picture its right behind the alternator. You can see one hose running to it with a yellow end. The other end running to the IC pipe.

A boost fooler is a good idea even if it will NOT show a code. the MAP sensor is not designed to see 30+ psi and you will damage it
