Dead gas pedal

Hey guys, The truck has been running pretty good since I found those chafed wires on the 42 pin harness. But, I keep getting the dead accelerator pedal every few days. It always seems to happen when coming to a stop. I let off to coast the SES light will flicker, then no pedal. It only lasts a few seconds then comes back.
So I tore down the colunm to check the overdrive wire but didnt find a short. I went ahead and put a wrap of black tape on the entire length of the wire while I was in there. Last night the dead pedal happened again.
What would be the next thing to look at?

Do you have any way to pull the codes? or monitor live data...

My thoughts on what I would investigate would be the Idle Validation Switch on the pedal assembly.

x2 on the idle validation switch, pedal assembly. Had this problem some time ago, I got by for awhile by letting the pedal snap back to neutral, but finally broke down and got new pedal assembly fixed problem.

Blow out the switch pack with air. That will more than likely fix the issue. A small shot if silicone spray on the plunger will help too.

I just put my 4th tps on my truck (about once a year) pedal goes dead like yours did.
Follow Kens advice. It works
Doorman tps's are junk. Back to a Ford unit this time.

Thanks guys, after reading some more I think ill go pick up some good cleaner and blow it out real good and see if this works.
Yall see the greasy nails in the picture? Had just spent almost four hours changing the spark plugs on a `99 5.4 triton. I cussed the ford engineers for some of the crap they came up with all day!! lol

I finally got around to pulling the TPS last night. Bought some contact cleaner that is safe for plastic. I blew it out with air then the cleaner and worked it back and fourth with a screwdriver, then blew it out again. We shall see if it works.
Thing almost got me in a wreck the other day. Was coasting to a stop to make a left turn across traffic. Had a gap in the cars and turned the wheel but no throttle!. Had to cut back in my lane real quick then it came right back.

Tried looking up new ones but the ford site was down. Found a Delphi for 45$ but not sure about them. Anyone know who might stock the ford parts?

Ford Parts

Check out this place Ford Parts Giant - Lowest Prices for Genuine Ford Parts. This link came from another thread on this forum, though I can't remember the topic.
I've had the same issue you are experiencing with the dead throttle but only after I run through a car wash. It may been a coincidence though and I'm sure it'll come back. I'm going to try Ken's suggestion as a preventive measure.
