front leaf spring torque specs

I picked this 1960 up for 500$. The body is in good shape after a lot of cleaning. But a larger v-8(Told by previous owner it was a 352 block with 390 crank and rods) is in it and between that and age the drivers front leaf spring had 3 cracked springs. I bought new front leaf spring sets, front shackles and u-bolts. I have yet to get a manual but what are the torque specs for all the bolts? I see several threads about the rear springs but not the front.

As I was cleaning.

Welcome to the forum. Your truck is really cleaning up well!

Front shackle nuts: 25-35 ft/lbs
Rear spring eye mounts: 50-60 ft/lbs
U-bolts (spring clips): 108-125 ft/lbs

I would tighten them until right before they break. Nice truck but we will need more pictures. Welcome.

Yes, nice truck. I wouldn't blame the broken springs on the big block, those leaves are often broke at this stage of the game. How's the inside look?

Mission successful! got both on today and the drivers side was shot.

Here are a few more pics

New gas tank guy never put in but left old rusty one with gas in it and developed a pinhole leak and ate the paint on the drivers step. Took a lot of work to get the gas smell out.

New tank painted.

If I understand correctly it has a 380(352Blockx390Crank).Power brakes and hydraulic clutch(I don't know if that was common or not.)

Cleaned Holley breather and painted it black and added a 4in breather.

Ok, that's it for now. I'll make a gallery on here later. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go and thanks again for the info.

Nice looking truck... I think it looks better than mine!

The pics show it still has the manual brake setup, with the hydraulic master right next to it.

EDIT: WAIT... What is that large hydraulic unit sitting where the power steering pump would be (on a normal car)? It that some kind of booster? Ive never seen one of those!

The one on the left is my master cylinder for brake and one on right is for the clutch and goes to a slave cylinder. Have found out it has a smaller diameter piston inside even though they look almost the same.(Guessing since it only pushes the clutch fork.) The brake booster is strange as it is mounted near the radiator. I had never seen one there before.

I honestly have no clue what they added and what they didn't. Also, I'll try to get all the numbers off the engine I can to get more info on it.

That's a big 'ole vacuum brake booster, I've never seen a factory one on an F100 before. How do the brakes feel when you're slowing down? Do you maybe have disc brakes on an axle?

There is a little cancer around lip on hood and around front windshield(currently not leaking so I'll leave that for now). The largest rust problems on the truck are the lower door jambs and floor pan supports. You would think that after years of design they would notice the front wheels slinging stuff up on those and put some cheap sheet metal deflector on those but my 66 is eat up the same way. Only body issue is the passenger side bed. We are thinking someone shorted a driveway and dropped into a culvert and cleanly folded up the rear panel up to the bed.Thinking of ways to fix it. Thought about cutting it just above fold and flattening it out then welding it back on and smoothing it back out. I'll get a pic of the folded piece but here is an example of it from afar.

No it has drum brakes all the way around. Thinking it might have come with the new motor but I'm waiting on wheel cylinders and new front hoses before I go really test them out. After leaf springs I carefully drove it to a close gas station and got gas and brakes still need work before i make the call if it helps. Booster diaphragm seems good since i can hear it slightly change engine rpm when I press the pedal.

The vacuum Booster looks very factory to me. Ford made several types back then for different size trucks and you have the Midland (Hy-Power) Diaphram type. There are folks here that have had them or still do but I don't believe they have been held in very high esteem due to the troubles they've had. But, I really don't remember stuff all that great anymore.

Nice truck! I've got a 59 f100. Had no motor or trans in it. I'v got a (1968) 390 with a T18 manual transmission for it. I've got clearance issues with the clutch fork and the steering linkage (where it passes through the frame rail). What transmission do you have?

Didn't know where to look on transmission to find numbers. Tail housing numbers said RF-C5TR then 7A40-B.

I looked at the casting numbers on block B9AE(9?)015B. Need to find the timing mark to check stroke to confirm if it has the 390 crank as he was told when he got the motor.
Picture of trans mounting.

LoL I see the numbers above arms on drivers side of trans in this picture. I will take a look tomorow. Also will take better pics of the slave/fork and shift arms tomorrow also.

Also any guess as to what the dwell should be? I have the points set to .017 and it is showing a dwell of 43 which seems high to me but I know little about any engines except the 240 in my 66.
