So my transmission has a very slow leak in it; it is slow enough that it is not leaking on the ground, but the entire bottom of the tyranny has a thin layer of a green fluid... Which is not 75W-90 gear oil.....

So this weekend I plan on draining....Whatever that is out of my tranny, flushing it, and refilling it. I can not, however, find the drain plug. I googled it and across the various truck and Mustang sites the answers have varied. Some placed said that the 3.03 doesn't have a drain plug.... Others have said that there is a female plug that requires a breaker bar to get out, and that it gets full of dirt and mud and gets hidden...

Now, I am asking the real experts: Where is the drain plug on the 3.03 tranny?

Also, is there a easy way to refill oil into the tranny? The drain plug seems pretty close to the bottom of the truck and looks difficult to get oil to. I was thinking of using one of those plumps you stick on the end of a cordless drill to pump oil back into tranny. That seems like my best bet.

That was one of the answers I found, but also found contradictory info too..

Seems like an odd design.

 

Have you cleaned your trans real good? Are you able to see the plugs? Depending on which plugs Male or Female will determine which tool to use. If a Male plug, most likely a 9/16 wrench will fit to remove. If female plugs were used, than a half in ratchet will be needed.

 

Pic in my Ford micro fische shows the drain plug being in the bottom of the case pointing straight down. Fill plug being on the right side towards the top.

 

I just happen to have a 3.03 transmission sitting on my work bench that i was getting ready to replace some gaskets in . So i just now took a look at it. It has a fill plug on the right side about 1/2 way up that has a square head on it . Some have a little square hole down in it . To drain it you just remove the bolt at the rear of the trany that holds the rear housing on . Some of them may have drain plugs, but that way will work. Another way is to use a suction hand pump if you have one. Pulling the bolt out is the easy way and the way i have done it on other transmissions.
