Looking to upgrade from 7.3 to 6.7

Hello guys. I have owned my 1999 7.3 for almost 10 years now and have loved it, but it is showing signs of wear. I came across a deal on a 2011 F350 Lariat with the 6.7 for $19,000 but is runs like crap. It has 100,000 miles. It is throwing the following codes:

P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P2200 - Nitrogen Oxide Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) Sensor Circuit Bank 1
P0203 - Injector Circuit Open - Cylinder 3
P24A5 - (EGR) Cooler Bypass Control Stuck (Bank 1)
P1249 - Wastegate Control Valve Performance
P0269 - Cylinder 3 Contribution/Balance
P02F0 - Cylinder 3 Injector Circuit Range/Performance
P1548 - Engine Air Filter Restriction

Does anyone have any suggestions what the problem could be and would it be worth buying and putting in a new engine at worst case scenario?

Thanks.

If you were to buy it then have to put a new engine in its not worth it. I just bought a 2014 left over for 44,000. That's before tax but these engines are pretty pricey. I don't have an exact number but it would seem you would just want to find a left over or somethig newer without any issues

Are you guys serious? For 19k man I would do that deal all day. Assume around 35k together spent and you will have a brand new truck for less then that. Remember the Transmission is still worth money and probably still good. Also you can scrap pieces of the engine. You can DELETE the engine from the get go and be off. This is such a good deal, me personally I would never pass it up.

However with that being said, if you are not mechanical enough to do most of the work yourself, you might come out closer to the number stated above(44k). And REALLY, as long as that fuel pump is good brother, everything else is really cheap on the engine. Once you start wrenching on the motor, you'll see that it's not really that complicated, everything starts making sense. Let us know what you end up doing man.

The rest of the truck still has 100,000 mi. On it though and for the extra 8,000 to have 0 mi. And warranty is a no brainer for me. I did the exact same upgrade 2 monthes ago and I think it was a very good decision. I was looking at used trucks for a while but the prices people were asking is exactly what your cost would be to fix it your self for 35-36k. If you need someone to do it it will be a lot more. For me the piece of mind goes along way know it's a brand new truck and I know someone has not beat the snot out of it. As you stated the laundry list of problems it currently has. Who knows what's to come

I would stick with the 7.3. Signs of wear are normal. I'd rather replace your 7.3 then have to replace my 6.7. I recently saw a nicely built 7.3 engine for around 8 thousand. There are some good sources for 7.3 goodies out there.

I think I am going to pass on it. After running the numbers, I would be in it around $36,000 with a remanufactured complete engine from Ford. The engine alone is $13,000. I don't have the time or ability to pull the cab off to do the job either. And it has a rebuilt restored title, and 100k miles on the rest of the truck. My 7.3 is looking a lot better at this point.

The salvage title is scarier to me than the motor issues.
Even if the motor was not fixable I would look at used engines and flipping it for something newer, at 19k with a clean title I'd look into it for sure.

You could put $10k into your existing rig and have a real nice out fit. Of course that would be if you had less than 200 k mi on your 7.3.

I love my 6.7, but I'd take a low milage built 7.3 any day.

Stay with your 7.3! Ford charges 10 grand just to replace the fuel system on the 6.7.

Trade on up brother. Or you keep your 7.3 and just buy a 6.7. They are far more robust then the 7.3 with the new technology. Easier to tow, more comfortable and they have all the creature comforts. 6.7 is a proven engine. The HPFP is not even a concern. There has been 3 total that weren't covered by Ford, and 2 of those were covered by insurance and only one guy had to pay out of pocket. It is a RARE failure, and as long as your smart and follow the scheduled maintenance you will be good. I am all about keeping trucks to get your money's worth, but I would definitely upgrade now man.

I know someone with a 6.4. They are experiencing regen issues and thus poor mileage. I don't know much about the 6.4. My favorite is the 7.3 but I also run a 6.7.

From what ive read and learned on this forum get a6.7 over 6.4.Just do some reading on 6.4 forum before you commit.
I had a7.3 prior to my 6.7. Yes it was a good engine for the reason that you could easily be a shade tree mechanic on it.but I was ALWAYS working on something on my 7.3 wether it was an the engine or ball joints or a noise here a noise there oil leaking there etc.My 6.7 I havent had to waste any spare time fixing anything. The inside creature comforts dont compare and the towing capabilities exceeds the 7.3.I liked my 7.3 but I love this beast.Good luck searching.
