Service engine light when towing

2005 2wd. Bone stock. 95,000 miles. FICM, Blue spring only.
After about 25 miles of driving. Towing a 30' goose-neck.(newer trailer) My service engine light will come on.
I have cleaned trailer plug and used dielectric grease. It is not a brake issue. Brake controller works as should.
Service light will reset after cycling ignition 4-5 times.
Again this only has happened while towing.
Any ideas?

Do you know what your temps are while towing? I've heard talk about high oil temps causing the wrench light to come on.

CEL should leave a code behind, and the wrench light should reset after turning the engine off once. Only while towing suggests an over-boost. but that should be the de-fuel and wrench light scenario.

10 to 1 it's turbo time. Check the codes but symptom is classic turbo issue.

Engine light. Not wrench.

Guess it's time for some gauges.

I copied the following from another thread:

Scan Gauge purchase.....go on advanced autos web site and use coupon code trt30 and get $50 off the price. Buy on line and pick it up at the store, puts the price to around $123 out the door for a $159 priced item!

If I was a betting man I will say your truck is throwing an EGR code. Something like code po0404. Simple fix is to clean your egr valve and see if that fixes it. Do a search on here for proper removal and cleaning so as you don't ruin your egr valve. Stop at a parts store and have them run a check for diagnostic codes. It's free. If it only does it when towing I bet that's it.

Ha, you caught that eh? The other side of the sunrise is really applicable specifically to California, stemming from my affiliation to the Northern California Chapter FTE. Being the east side of the Sierra Mountains but still in cali, You know, over on the other side of the sunrise.

I wonder if Advanced Auto ships. May not be worth the shipping though. I've heard that Autozone carries them in stock, if you have one of those nearby.

Do you have an Apple device, i.e. Iphone, Ipod, Ipad etc.?
