SHTF & The Urban Jungle

Seriously, leather is extremely practical, durable, long lasting, and when the chips are really down can serve as food. My leather tack outlast the cordura stuff by 2-3 times with little maintenance.

Well....The way THEY were talking...you kinda/sorta did.....
My point being....pick stuff that doesn't require much maintenance.
Point taken.
Nothing against leather......really. I just liked the TuffProducts magazine holders.....and considering the number of mags I was talking about carrying....and the integration with a 'MOLLY' vest......It would be a practical 'fast' kit to throw on and do battle......

What clux said plus
Ya do the maintenance when you can so you don't have to when you can't. Once in good shape it will stay that way through thick and thin for a long time.
The only thing harder about premium leather is that premium full grain leather is thick thus takes more oils and has the top layer that doesn't absorb as well. In the first three days after I recently got new boots I put maybe a cup of oil on/in the leather over 3 days. Now, they are great, they slough off everything and are comfortable enough that I haven't yet worn socks with them this summer.
Fragile leather is thin under grain leather without replacement oils. Still the most fragile leather is still stronger then the majority of heavy duty fabrics.
Very little but the reasons for that aren't anti-leather. They are pro military, military supplied equipment, and support to clean and replace.
IDK why this noise thing has been taken to an extreme but noise is no reason for leather over fabrics, neither is loud, except corduroy of course.
If I'm low crawling I absolutely want leather between my skin and the ground. Nothing else will stand up better to that kind of use or keep me drier, warmer, cut free, etc. while doing it.

There's quiet, and there's 'quiet'. I'm not sneaking up for a close shot at an NVA general or anything........or crawling through the jungle. Sure....If you're trying to move from point a to point b, and there's a group you're trying to avoid, then sure. Quiet is better than not quiet. But in the environment I'm speaking of, I don't see the need to be able to move like a ninja.

Update of handy equipment. Urban OR not-so urban.
Quick and easy shelter:

or food:
Datrex - DATREX BLUE RATION 3,600 KCAL, 1 PACK detail
I like the no-heat-signature characteristic of the shelter.....if you happen to want to avoid heat-seeking equipment.
Both are lightweight, small, and highly portable.
So. Ya got your weapons. Mags. Other sundry items. Hopefully a 3-liter camelback. Knives. Food and shelter.
Your expectation of survival has increased.

And if you want to save money on that magical cocoon, google space blanket. That's all this is. I will give them credit for at least adding the stitched reinforcement. The non-stitched kind are basically just mylar and way too easy to tear, but they do fold up into a very small pouch and can be used for an emergency.
I carried a space blanket decades ago. Made a huge difference when we got caught in a surprise blizzard up on a mountain top (in the middle of summer without cold weather gear)
