Is there a good thread for turbo selection and installation for noobish wrenchers?

I've had my NA 7.3 idi for a few months now. The truck is in great shape and I've decided I'm going to be keeping it. It's not a daily driver, so I can afford to have it sit for awhile while I'm working on it.

Is there a good thread on here for selecting and installing a turbo? Ideally, I would like to get all of my parts together to minimize down time while doing the install.

Since I am not very experienced with wrenching, I'm a little shy about getting a used kit and needing to do modifications or finding missing parts. I'm kinda leaning towards the banks kit, since it has the tranny kit for my E4OD, and an exhaust/muffler included. (PO removed muffler, but left it stock 2" pipe?)

If I went with the hypermax kit, should I consider their inter cooler as well?

The truck pulls a 5500 lb boat in Washington often loaded with camp gear and fire wood, lots of hills and mountains on our trips.

Cost is a consideration, but I don't need to be super cheap about it since I didn't spend big bucks on a fancy new rig.

Any help is appreciated. (yes, I lost a bearing cap on this trip on the right front trailer wheel)

Sharp pickup. I would look for a used kit, the new ones are so overpriced its not even funny. Or if you want a really nice setup. Get ahold of racinNdrummin on here or at idiperformance.com

Thanks, I will ask him. I looked at his site, and he had some turbos, but would this mean I would be fabbing and or fitting the exhaust and intakes? I guess i should be asking him that!

Yeah, I feel like I got lucky with this rig. There's not a squeak, whistle or rattle on the thing. I can shut both doors with one finger, easier than on my mini cooper!

Any hints on an existing selection/install thread? I know there has to be one on here, but the keywords are not strong with this one today...

Here's mine from a month or two ago. Just went with the ATS setup with the larger exhaust housing and downpipe. I love it so far.

I feel you bashby, I've been trying to get some parts from R&D for a long time now. Every time I get the money up, something goes to crap!

Justin at R&D will be finishing up his new turbo kit here very shortly and claims that it will not require much modification, check him out on facebook for info on the kit, I'm sure some of these guys know the page as it is escaping me at the moment.
