I have a 5.0 EFI and same year AOD From a 91 T-Bird in my 71 F100.

Questions on a suitable speedometer cable. I have been told I will need a cable that is VSS capable. Not running cruise, using a stock 71 F100 speedometer. So, is there a way around this? Other than swapping tailshafts from an earlier AOD?

I read somewhere a 80's era big bronco speedometer cable will work correctly. Anyone heard of this before?

Yes, I know I will need to get the right gear so my MPH reads correctly. First things first.

 

I've got an 89 AOD in my 71. Stock/factory 71 cable is working for me.

 

The computer may freak out a bit without a speed signal, but it's not too hard to fix. Many trucks up to 94 had the speed pickup at the tailhousing with the speedo cable feeding through it just like a normal clamp. I would suggest a bit of junkyard diving to find what would work for you.
