Newfound Hub compatability!

I've got a '53 f250 that I've been workin on and of course the p.o. Had converted it 5 lug because he wanted it to be a hot rod. So now I've been looking for hubs to get back to eight lug. Yesterday I realized before I got out and buy hubs, maybe I should try using some that I already had. That leads me to my other truck, a 1948 f3. Long story short, the hubs from a 1948 f3 fit the spindles of 1953 f250. That's right folks they fit with no play, wobble or any movement in the wrong directions.

Good to know but what about the backing plate, etc? So you want to go back to the F250 drums on the front? Just curious why. On my F250's I wanted to get away from the 8 lug and drums that always locked up.

Could do a disk brake conversion. Some people have modified the 78 Era Ford mounting brackets to work.

It sounds like that is what was done already. I do a disc conversion on all my F250/350 to get rid of the 8 lug and give me a better selection of wheels and better braking. The only reason, IMHO, to keep the 8 lug is for weight capacity or conservation of a stock truck.

I would welcome a detailed write up on what was used and what mods had to be done. Thanks.

The reason why I'm converting to eight lug is because of bigger discs and better load capability. There is a commercial kit available to convert 48-52 8 lug and 53-56 8 lug to disc brakes. There is also a write up on this forum that instructs u step by step on how to install the kit.

Yup that's the one. Plan on purchasing it once I get the hubs squared away. I know I said the hubs fit, but I decided against using them for my application simply because of the weight I will be hauling at times. That means I will be heading to the local trailer supply store and purchasing a pair of Hubs soon. I know they'll have the right size because most trailer axles and accessories are made to ford's specs.

Here is what I did.

Let us know if you can find anything, but I am using the original hubs and I would think they are plenty strong.
