electrical help!! ect sensor no power

I have recently changed my ect (engine coolant temperature) sensor and now my temp gauge on the dash isnt reading. I tested the ground and power wires and the ground tripped the pin light. When i stuck the light in the power i got nothing. I tested other components and they were all making the pen light vome on so. Know i had it grouded well. What do i do now? Do i rewire it to the pcm? And wouldnt this throw a code and i have none. Worried that i shouldnt drive it like this. Any suggestions is awesome.
