Hopin for a Good Trip

Hey All,

Getting ready to head out to Ocean City MD on the 5th towing the 5er. Heres hoping to start of the towing season with a good long trip. This may be the deciding factor whether we keep the 06 or trade up. I don't anticipate problems but hey ya never know.

Looks like about a 500 mile trip 1 way, so its a little further than our usual trip to Cape May Im thinking I will probably have to stop for fuel.

We will be staying at Castaways RV Park for a week so if you're in the area and want to stop by or meet up let me know.

That 6.0 will get you there and back no problem, too many fears start all the doubt. I'll go anywhere in my truck and I know it has some "small" issues

It was a rough week, I know its got issues but I also know it will get me where I need to go.

I decided to do a tranny service for my own piece of mind and turns out when the dealer serviced it last, cause I asked to have the internal tranny filter replaced as well, they stripped out 7 of my pan bolts. Spent several hours with the time sert kit, but I got it done, just a little frustrated is all.

I own/operate my own repair shop and I couldn't sleep at night if I did that to a customers car, especially if I put Teflon tape on the threads so they would stay in the tranny.

I did install the modified DC solenoid and so far so good. Just cant wait to get on the road and listen to that Power Max sing.

500 miles is nothing, I thought your were gonna say your were headed for Oregon or California. . I need to learn how to tighten a trans pan and not have it leak, I can't get mine to stop, it leaked 1 quart per 800 miles on my 5,160 journey I just made. I then took the pan off and cleaned and reinstalled it and it is seeping still.

I have a Mag-Hytech Pan and the O-ring does a real good job of keeping things dry.

Some times ya just have to close yer eyes and pay the extra for something that works.
Cheaper is not always better just cheaper.

It wasn't easy to justify it, but back when the truck was new I was using it way more to haul heavy and I was thinking the extra 8 Qts was a good thing so I just bit the bullet, and there was no 08-up pan available for that mod at the time....so that's what I had to do.

You will really think Im crazy when I tell ya I popped for the rear diff cover too, but again no 08 mods back then.

I bit the bullet, and now its all paid for so Im stuck with it or give it away to the dealer or someone else that doesn't know what this stuff is worth.

That cover on your diff has a port to stick a temp probe into. I put one one mine too and I'll tell you the diff fluid takes a LONG time to heat up. I really wanted it to watch while towing the 5er. After a few hours and running into the mountains it barely gets to 200*f.

Yeah I know one of these days I will put a probe in there too, all depends if I keep the truck or not. Im really waiting for a solid report on the 15's before I make a decision.

Chances are Im keeping it but Im still up in the air. I would love a new truck but its the whole paying for it thing that gets me.
