looking into getn a f250 and got some easy questions

Well my f150 is not cutting it on towing horses. So im selling my truck for 6k and my street bike for 4k for a lifted f250. So i just have some easy questions.

1 Do all super dutys have tow packages with electric brakes
2 how much longer is a long bed from a short
3 what kind of mpg will i get with a 7.3 and 37s
4 whats the word on why 6.0s are so bad
5 whats the difference between a f250 and f350
6 And finally whats the difference between the 2000 and up super dutys and the 1999 and older f250s

1 Tow package with brake controller is an option
2 short 6.5, long 8ft
3 dunno
4 read the 6.0 forum
5 Currently gvrw and the rear blocks may be some other stuff across older years
6 99-04 all very similar, 05-07 front end look changed a little, 08-10 front end look changed again. Change from leaf springs in the front to coilover was 05 I believe. I am sure there is much more.

ok yeah i wasnt sure how much more of a pain it would be to drive around a long bed. And just wondering how much i should stay away from the 6.0s cus iv heard alot about them being bad. And with the older f250s like 99 and older with TTB and GVW and what not.

1 brake controllers can be installed easy
2 a long wheel based vehicle is better for towing
3 lifted trucks are for looks not for working
4 all engines have there issue
5 a 350 has a higher gvw rating than a 250
6 its all what you prefer

this is just my opinion take it for what its is

yeah i have them in my truck right now i was wondering about taking it out of my truck when i sell it. But really ? how is a longer wheel base better for towing ?, And yeah i know every motor has it problems but iv heard alot of bad stuff about the 6.0s and nothing about the 7.3s haven problems. And yeah they can tow more but im talking more about axle and brake size or different trannys. Yeah i know big tires arent good for work but where i live i got alot of muddy and snowy roads to make it home in plus i like to go play up in mountains. Just wondering how much a diesel will feel bigger tires beings that there such torque monsters.

Hi and come on over to

Come over to >>> 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
Read at the top of the forum the Tech Folder.
Lots of info on the 6.0 and how to keep one running happy.
If you read that and still want to know more just ask.

You don't need big tires to make it through muddy/snowy roads, you just need good tires. If you're buying a truck for the purpose of towing, you want a stock truck. Lifts and big tires significantly reduce your towing capacity, and will just cause you more problems down the road.

If you want to "play in the mountains", get a Jeep. If you want to tow your horses, get a stock Super Duty. A lifted Super Duty may look nice, but these trucks are not meant for play. They're meant for work. They're big and heavy...get in some mud and they sink like a rock.

I wouldn't buy a lifted truck anyway. You don't know if the lift was installed properly, and you know it's had the snot beat out of it.

I own lifted 150 & 250 and use both for work trucks (snow plowing and hauling) with little to no issues. This is because both trucks were probably lifted with gears to match, extended bump stops, good lifts, etc. Remember a 250 is heavier Duty truck than a 150. From experience the 250 is not as fun for play as a 150. Mainly use my 150 for this purpose as it feels better off road. Just an option from someone that owns both.

I ran a lifted '03 F250 with 7.3 and 37" tires. I did a 6" lift with the good Deaver springs (expensive!) and I also geared the axles to 4.30 (expensive), and tune the engine, exhaust, intake, blew the trans (expensive), but it was a fun truck to drive. It got 14mpg stock. After lift, tires, and gears, still 14mpg (the aftermarket stuff helped out).

Now I have a 3v 5.4 and get 9mpg on 33's.

yeah i plan on regearing down the road to like 4.88s for the tires, im going to school to become a tech and just got done learning trannys and diffs last semester and how to rebuilt them and beef them up to handle abuse. But yeah of course i know lift and tires are pointless for hauling but iv been workn to hard to get to as nice of a truck as i have now so yeah i want it to look cool with a nice lift kit and tires, guess its more of a ego thing Plus they gota gvw of around 9500 lb so a 6000 lb pony load with 37s wont be too much on the truck.

Yep im running 35s and i get about 11 mpg with a 5.4. I know im talking alot but thats why i put my first post in a list form so i dont bore u guys with a life story

Smart choices. I have 4.88s on my 150 to aid with lift and 35s.

If you're serious about the towing part of it, step one is a larger plate cooler for the trans, then step two is a BTS trans rebuild. Forget the rest of the equation, 37s + towing + 4R100 = trans work, even with gears. It's like studs for a 6.0, if you know you want to play then just get it out of the way.

Rusty is correct. Just rebuilt the trans on my 150 for towing and added an intercooler. The larger gears helped but the stock trans couldn't handle it. Now truck has proper gears, trans, etc.

Lifting a truck proper is more than larger tires and lift.

yep i plan on that once the tranny gos out. I leaned in school that a company called jasper that will sell u a remanufactured tranny with beefed up clutch packs and modified valve bodies for the delayed and harder shifts. they run about 2-3k but dont quote me on that. Or spend the 12 hrs and rebuild it all i actually got to fully rebuild a E4OD tranny which is actually the tranys thats in my truck lol

Well what can you guys tell my about the TIB on the older f250s with there leaf springs, seem kind of weird from the coil TIB. And when did they start putting in the straight axles.
