Oddball injector question (really odd)

Today when I was in IH we were chatting and the parts guy said some thing
about hearing that one of the diesels (Ford) needed to have a different injector
in one of the holes. I said I had never heard that before. The only think I was
thinking at the time is was this some other engine or do we in fact have to
do that? If this is some other engine anyone know what one it was/is?

Only thing I can think of is if it had an older injector 03-04 in a newer motor. Different coating on the inside.

That is the 7.3. They had a long lead injector in the #8 cylinder.

Yep, the 7.3 has 7 of 1, and 1 of another. Goofy slow motors that they are.

Yup 7.3 latter years had a LL (long lead) in number. What we were told was its the same injector that basicly flows more. You can use all 8 non LL injectors in the engine. It was added to reduce fuel knock issues that the boat anchor had

The new 6.7's have two different injectors as well. The 1,2,7, and 8 are one number the 3,4,5,6 are a different number. Has to due with the injector line length.

Close. It has to do with the orientation of the the fuel line. Iirc it is the low pressure line.
Also the stainless steel tubes face different direction too.

Trying to go of memory for what my ford rep told me the reason was.

Wait till you stuff some FAA regs in you head on top of everything else.
No wonder A&P mechanics have to have the manual for what ever they
are working on sitting within reach and on the right page. The FAA inspector
can get a little grumpy if you don't and he is having a bad day.
