89 F-150 XLT Lariat won't start
Hey guys,
My truck has the 5.0L 302 V8. I recently attempted to tow what was apparently more than my truck could handle (bed loaded down and small open-air 5x9 uhaul trailer with a bed on it). After about 20 miles I smelled something bad (maybe burning oil?) and not long after that a check engine light came on. I pulled over and had to arrange to pick up a larger U-haul and a vehicle trailer to tow the truck to my final destination. When I pulled in the gas station at that first stop the truck seemed to be idling rough - not that much, but enough that I could tell.
I turned the truck off at that first stop and it started back up fine in order to drive another 7 miles to the Uhaul shop. It still seemed rough whenever idling all the way to the Uhaul shop. When I reached the Uhaul shop I turned the truck off and it started up fine after that to load the truck on the trailer. That finally done, the truck sat untouched overnight while we travelled to our destination.
Now, the truck will not start. It cranks, but it seems like either it doesn't get fuel or spark maybe. When I turn the key to start I can hear the fuel pump running and actuators prime (or whatever that little clicking sound is).
I attempted a KOEO test but it is not working - with the test connectors bridged, and the key turned to start the dash panel just sits there and stays lit (I let it sit up to about 5 minutes...) - no flashing or anything. I'm going to try hooking up an analog multimeter whenever I get a chance to borrow one, otherwise I'll try disconnecting the battery to reset it all and maybe that'll change something...
Anybody have any clues at all? I don't know where to start other than attempting the KOEO and/or disconnecting the battery.
