I have a E99 F250 with the standard manual telescoping mirrors. The arms are flaking and I would like to paint them. Can I take the mirror head off the arms? I can paint them on the truck I just feel I could do a better job if they were all apart. Any links to pictures? Thanks Jason
I just extended mine when I hooked up my new 8 1/2 x 24 trailer and noticed the same flaking and fading on my 2005, Florida sunshine & UV is brutal. I plan to do the same and would appreciate tips as well.
I'm subscribing to this, I've got a flaking arm as well. They look to be powder coated, so unfortunately no paint will match that, but I'm interested to see if anyone has any thoughts. I may just use this as my excuse to buy the 08+ mirrors from 1AAuto though...

I started considering that as well, weighing $$$ vs. my time & effort...
I recently painted my windshield cowl with Krylon satin black and it looks like new. Years ago the black top on my Bronco faded after just 6 years so I took it off and carefully painted it with the same paint - it still looked great when I sold it 10 years later - The Krylon lasted longer than the factory finish.
