Tire Question

Hey all I just put a new set of 285/75/16's Load E on my Excursion. I was cleaning it yesterday and I noticed a couple of indentions on the sidewalls. Not huge just a little sunk in spot. Does this mean anything bad on the tires?

Thanks for the input

Not necessarily. I see those 'dents' on my sidewalls. I get 35k miles out of my drives, and 50k miles out of my steers, fairly consistently. Never had an issue with a dented sidewall tire.

Good to hear, I have had them on some old tires but I didn't know about the new ones. I was praying I didn't have a bad cord or something. I do think they are going to have to balance them again.

This is due to the shifting in the belts in the sidewall. Indentations are very common in tires that have have a large sidewall area and run high pressures. It really should not affect performance. My Michelin 285's developed this about 10k miles after install and 45k miles in are just fine. It's not as serious of an issue as a protrusion in a newer tire. Protrusions can typically be replaced under the manufacturer's tire warranty.
