HELP 09 6.4L Died without warning!

Driving down the road and it sputtered, smoothed out, then died. Good strong crank, no start. Although I know that 6.0L well, I'm a stranger to the 6.4L. Here's the codes.

p0087...fuel pump issues.

Check the filters for water and metal. Shine a light in the fuel bowl and see what you have.

Thanks for the response. I'll check into that on Monday. It appeared the fuel flowed freely through filter. So that P0087 does not point to injection pump troubles? What a relief!

It is not an injection pump...but a High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP). That feeds the rails which then feed the injectors.

The HPFP is lubricated by fuel. It does not like water. So pull the filters and look at the fuel bowl. Rust or Metal and then you are done.

Uh oh. Okay so you're saying it may be the high pressure fuel pump? ... I was using TORQUE PRO for Android and fuel rail pressure was reading 0 while cranking. I'll just say that my trust in TORQUE is not very great. Anyone know if TORQUE reads the average 6.4L right?

Also, what does the rail pressure run at hot idle, max load, or at crank? So I have an idea of what to expect ... Cranking, injector pulse width went up to around 2,000 us...

Not too helpful in the 6.4 forum are they? Maybe 6.4 owners are elusive like the Chupacabra?

a lot of us have moved up to the 6.7. I did because I needed more tires.

torgue pro was not too much on the market when the 6.4 came out...at least with our motor and software anyway.

Most were using dashdq/scanguage II or a tuner like Spartan or H and S.

They look fine. After checking it, I turned the key on and listened to the pump. Sounded normal. I could hear the air being purged from the filter, then as it came through the pump. After a while it bubbled violently in the tank until the air was all pushed out. I'm of the mind the lift pump being good ... or does that not confirm it?

Are you getting any fuel rail pressure when cranking, if not, I would you either have air in the system, or you have a high pressure pump problem, or no fuel in the system, lower pump issue.
