Overflow tank antifreeze

I changed the water pump on a 4.9 88 F150.

I had to open the overflow tank a couple of times to fill it with antifreeze.

Its right at the cold mark,

but,

I cleaned off the top of the tank because there was antifreeze on top of the reservoir.

it seems like antifreeze is coming up from the antifreeze tank/reservoir, or when I go over bumps the cap is bad and allowing antifreeze to pass over the seal and get on top of the tank.

anyone changed a reservoir recently because of this? I see a couple online for cheap and one with a one year guarantee.

That sounds like the problem my truck has. I just assumed the engine was consuming it, but this sounds a lot more likely.

My reservoir is a 20 oz Arizona Southern Style Sweet Tea bottle with a hole drilled in the cap the same diameter as the overflow hose that runs to the bottom of it, and a small hole next to it for a vent. If you ain't ever held one of these bottles... it's just as sturdy as can be, and I have zero spillage.

I still need to get a clamp and mount it permanently. I should take the label off and paint it black too.

I was thinking about taking a tire tube or something a cutting out a circular gasket and put under the cap to make a seal.

or some type of tape that is resistant to antifreeze to try and keep the antifreeze inside the overflow.

have you ever replaced the reservoir on your truck??

No, still the original tank. It comes out the vent hole in the top of the cap more than around the cap or out from under the cap. Maybe I just drive too fast on rough roads!
