new IP, Intermittant no start.

92 ford e350 clubwagon 7.3 idi E40d
370,000kms (canada)
New GP's and Controller
i just got a new IP installed by a shop the next town over.
the van has been running great. like a bat outta hell. but twice now I've gone down to start it up when its already hot. and it won't start. just cranks and cranks, no smoke coming from the exhaust while cranking either. i cracked all the injector lines and theres fuel spraying out of them all. so it should be all bled up. but nothing. will not fire.
could it be a pump timing issue?? the engine does sound different to how it used to run before the new IP was installed.

even after leaving it over night it will normally fire right up in the morning. so unless it has a weird intermittent air leak??

what else should i be checking??

update.

I just let it sit and cool down and it started right up no problem at all.. could the engine get too low on compression to start when the engine is warm??

Hard starting warm is a symptom of a dying IP. Where did you get the replacement?

x2 and pulling the test from another recent thread:

I'd bring it back to the shop to get it replaced again. I can't remember exactly what the issue is, but I think it has to do with warn out parts in the pump not building enough pressure when warm, but works fine when cold. That or the fuel shut off solenoid?

this pump is a brand new replacement from NAPA...

next time it acts up ill try the water trick and see if it is infact the pump..

FSS is clicking and there is fuel squirting at the top of the injectors. which seems to say that the pump is working correctly? no?

Not necessarily, it means it's pumping fuel yes, but it doesn't tell you if it's pumping enough pressure to pop the injectors.

Are you sure that pump's new and not rebuilt? I hadn't heard of new DB2s being offered anywhere.

sounds like the pump you bought is junk and it got a poor rebuild before you bought it. seems to be a common story from all but the most reputable rebuilders

I'm thinking so, I just checked Napa's website and they do show quite a few pump options ALL of them are "remanufactured". Sounds like a clean and paint rebuild.

I bought my IP and all 8 injectors from Napa on my '89, and I had two injectors fail within 300 miles, and I have another one that leaks out, but it's my dad's truck now so it's his to fix :P I'd say Napa's remanned stuff is hit and miss, their exchange policy is pretty good though as long as you have the receipt.
