Autobox doesn't shift like it used to.
My Automatic 2005 F350 with 23,000miles was sitting for a long time (7 months) so I ended up replacing both of the starter batteries because they both sulphated went flat.
When driving I noticed that it hangs onto the gears for much longer before shifting up. In doing this...the rev range is much higher on the lower gears which annoys the hell out of me.
I did some searching on here and found that there is a procedure to help the transmission ECU learn the shift pattern again. I followed the instructions but it hasn't made any noticeable difference.
If I managed to get something wrong does the transmission still learn the correct shift/rev gear change sequence?
Thx.

No, because the transmission doesn't learn when to shift. That is hard coded into the computer. The software learns how long each shift takes from when the computer commands the shift until the trans is in the next gear. Then it adds or subtracts pressure for next time that it makes that shift. It does not affect the RPM that the shift occurs at.
Is the tow/haul light flashing? That would indicate that an error codes has been stored.

Thanks Mark. The tow/haul light is not indicating.
Do you think I should have another try at the mild/steady/hard acceleration procedure procedure then?
I know that the transmission is working/operating at much higher revs than it used to which is what prompted me to do the forum search in the first place.
Thx.

Rerunning the procedure WILL NOT change when the trans shifts. It can help make the shift firmer or softer. The RPM that it shifts at is hard coded. I thought I covered that...
There is something wrong. Now to find out what. You'll need a high end scan tool that can look at live data. You need to see each of the three transmission speed sensors, the pedal position sensor, vehicle speed sensor, and the command from the computer to the trans to shift.
