Dana 60 rear axle question

I currently have a 3.54 semi-float Dana 60 in my truck - which has a slight whine at the balance point between power-on / power-off (nearly 200k miles).

If the ring & pinion need replacing I would prefer to go to a full-float, 3.73 axle.

Does anyone know if the wheel cylinders are the same diameter on both axles?
Or am I going to need to also change the master cylinder, to allow for different volumes?

Thanks

Ken - The first page shows that some F250's, those at 6250 GVW and above, had the same brakes as the F350's. And the second page shows which trucks used the semi-float and full-float axles.

So, if you have a GVWR of 6250 or higher I would think you'd have the same brake cylinders as the full-float axles have.

Thanks for those pages, Gary.

Aren't those figures (6250 etc) axle capacity, not GVWR?

My GVWR is 7300lb, but my rear axle capacity is only 4777lb (with 12" x 2.5" brakes).

Sorry. You are right - axle capacity. Let me look at cylinder size.....
Looks to me like your 83 has 15/16" cylinders and the "new" axle will have either 1" or 1 1/16" cylinders depending on what year you get.

As for the master cylinder, the next two pages should let you figure out what one you have versus what the "new" axle would have had, but few of those listings provide diameter so all you will know is if they are different. Unfortunately I don't see anything in the parts catalog that gives the spec's for each, although you may be able to find that on the internet.

Thanks again, Gary.
It looks as if the master cylinder might be OK anyhow.
I'll have a look at a couple of sites like Rockauto or LMC, & see if they have any extra info.
