Axle question..

I have a D60 rear and a D44 front. How much better would it be to get a sterling rear axle, and does sterling have a front axle? Just curious because eventually i want to upgrade to built D60s and I know I can atleast get my hands on a Sterling rear...

TIA
Jake

i sterling is twice the axle as a 60 IMO... i don't know of a sterling front so go for a dana 60 front, they're tuff... sterling 10.25 come with 1.5" 30 spline axles and slip off drums with o-ring seal axles, just to name some of the perks... i recommend slicing and grinding some castings off the sterling, you can save alot of weight if thats important to you...

aren't 35 spline axles better? does the 10.25 have an aftermarket? how much wider is it compared to the dana 60? What gears does the sterling have?

I guess I shoulda have posted this in the Axle forum.. probably would have gotten more replies.. Thanks for the reply.

The sterling numbers don't look that impressive on paper, but they are by far and away a great axle. A sterling has a small ring gear and axles, but is every bit as tough as a dana 70. Parts are pretty expensive for the sterlings though. Should be the same width as your 60. The 60 front is your only option unless you want rockwells or a double cardin dana 80 front axle that weighs more than your truck.
