1966 Ford F100 2WD Camper Special Factory Wheel Specs

I've got my flame suit on, so go ahead. I've searched. I've searched high. I've searched low. It's baffling, to me, why we don't have a sticky'd "Specifications" thread at the top of this sub-forum to help mitigate searching by the exact correct term and/or pestering the seniors.

Any how, my truck is in dire need of replacement wheels and tires. I want to go back with the factory setup with modern tires to match width. What were the wheel specifications for the Camper Special model in 1966? I've found that they were 15" outtie steel design with a bolt pattern of 5x5.5.

Info I'm looking for:
Diameter: 15"
Width: ?
Bolt Pattern: 5x5.5
Backspacing: ?
Offset: ?

C5TZ-1007-D .. Heavy Duty 15" x 5.5" 5 lug, 5.50" bolt circle "Innie" Wheel ~ Use with tube or tubeless tires: 1965/66 F100.

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog does not specify Camper Special, but I would assume this and F100 4WD's were the applications.

FTE member tripleframe will know for sure, as he has the fleet salesman's data books.

Innie: So called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the inside of the wheels center section.

1966 was the last year for innie wheels. "Outie" wheels introduced in 1965, used thru 2013.

Outie: So called because the hubcap snaps over tabs located on the outside of the wheels center section

Any of the following wheels will fit 1965/66 F100's:

15" 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle: 1955/79 F100 / 1966/96 Bronco / 1969/74 E200 / 1975/96 F150 / 1975/2013 E100/150 / Some 1980/83 F100.

If disc brakes are swapped, you'll need 1973 and newer wheels.

Thanks, NumberDummy. If you happen across backspacing and/or offset numbers I'd be very grateful if you posted those as well. I'm honestly not 100% sure what makes the camper special model different, but I've seen where some believe they came with a different size wheel/tire package and different rated springs.

I went through my wheel references and found the Ford part number Bill cites, as well as others for the outie wheels if you want to go that direction. They would be K-H products but none of my K-H references cited offset figures. I can say, though, that a standard half ton wheel generally has 1/2" of positive offset. I too found no differentiation on the Camper Special option package.

Here's how you figure back spacing. Stu

Good info, thank you for the reference. If you happen across the actual numbers, please do post them up. Cheers!

How authentic do you want it to be? The F 100 Camper Special used the heavy duty flat base 2 piece 15" wheels, not the more common drop center 1 piece 15" wheel. These rims with tubes hold air better under rugged use. The 15" 2 piece wheel accepts the old style "innie" hubcap only. I believe these wheels have about 1" more negative offset ( wheel is closer to edge of fenders) than common 1 piece wheels. . The 7.00 -15 bias is still available ( known as a trailer tire now), and also the radial version 7.00R-15 Yokohama and Toyo both make them.

This makes it straight forward. It narrows it down to only one wheel possibility, and I've checked the data across a variety of references to ensure it's uniform and correct. The wheel carries National Wheel and Rim Association (NWRA) code X-45058. There were two that fit the criteria, Kelsey-Hayes #37717 and Motor Wheel Corporation #34983. The most likely wheel supplied by Ford would have been the K-H product. Ford is the only manufacturer to use this wheel, and assigned it their number TAAA 1007-B. This number dates back to 1953. Both the K-H and MW products used a Firestone "RIP" outer rim/ring design. The K-H part number for the ring alone is 28478-S1170 and Ford part number is 7RC 1099. As said it is 15" x 5.50" semi drop center, has .250" of positive center disc offset, and uses an "innie" hub cap to fit its 8.092" center. Below is a cross section diagram of the "RIP" rim/ring profile. Stu

Amazing! Thank you very much. This helps narrow my search quite a bit! Most of the truck is original except for the bench seat, exhaust pipe, rear bumper, and rear wheels. I wasn't sure if the front wheels were original or not, but now I can confirm that they are because they are the two piece wheels.

Truckdog, you've outdone yourself! Now...to locate a pair.

Thanks, NumberDummy. After speaking with a couple local guys last night, I think I'd be better off using a more modern recreation wheel. I plan on driving the truck a lot.
