Exhaust popping with just a new tip installed

Anyone else have this experience?

All I did was cut off the straight section of tailpipe and install a 2.5" inlet, 4" outlet exhaust tip. It sounds a bit deeper at idle and a little louder when I rev it, but when I let off the gas it pops pretty loud.

I remember hearing popping on decel on videos of trucks where aftermarket exhaust/mufflers were installed, but not just from a new tip.

It may have been doing it before but you just couldn't here it. The 2.5" to 4" increases sound significantly, which I'm sure you're already aware of.

Besides just what I could hear from inside the cab, I also took a before/after video. I couldn't hear any popping with the stock pipe, but you could be right. It may have been too quite to hear.

Just not sure if the popping is normal. I haven't had a gas powered truck for a long time and I don't remember my '81 Bronco or '75 F150 popping much, but they had loud exhaust (dual glasspacks and dual flowmasters).

Yes, 5.4

Only other thing I've done was an intake which I've had on there for a month or so now.

It almost sounds like the cackle effect from when people take of the cats. Im running straight from the cats with down turns and the only time I can get cackle is when im messing around and down shift

Unbolt the tip and see if it still happens. If not, then you know it's just the tip doing it

Did that. No popping. Just the tip.

Drove it around with the tip installed and couldn't get it to pop at all. I guess it only happens when free revving it.

Oh well. Just kinda strange.

If it's just the tip.....haha......then it isn't causing any damage. Might get annoying though.

Like I said, it didn't pop at all while driving. So it'll only get annoying if I sit and rev my engine at red lights all the time, which won't be happening.
