towing

I'm sure I already know this answer but I'll ask it anyways....
I have an 09 4x4 Ranger and want to know if it would be safe to pull a 2 horse trailer with 1 horse in it...The total weight would be under 5000 lbs. And if this is possible would electric brakes on the trailer be helpful?
Thanks

A 4.0L automatic is rated at 5800 lbs with either a 3.37 or 4.10 rear gear. I'd sure go with electric brakes.

A two-horse trailer with one horse in it would be under 5k lbs? I think your first stop should be a certified scale.

Granted, I have not seen a LOT of horse trailers, but I have never seen one without brakes. With 5k lbs and a live load pushing you around, I strongly recommend it. Most states require brakes on trailers over 3k lbs GVWR.

Just remember the giddy-up-and-go will be the easy part. The whoaing can be a bit exiting.

Also keep in mind that the Ranger doesn't have the wiring for a trailer brake controller - one will need to be wired in, but it's not a difficult job.
