CAT ELC Coolant

Anyone know of national distributors who regularly stock Caterpillar ELC coolant, other than the CAT Dealers. Just trying to find a source closer and more convenient than the CAT dealer.

Thanks in advance

For actual CAT brand....you could try truck stops or truck repair shop.

Peak Final charge and Zerex makes an equivalent. I used the Zerex, unfortunately, I don't have the part # handy. I bought it at Napa.

whatever you get, make sure you get the concentrate not the premix.

LOL--no, sometime I just get lucky. I get lots of help, I promise.

It actually stands for North Point Collision Center parts man. I was the parts manager there for 3 years.

There's no way to completely get all the water out of the system even if you open the block drains. If you do a system flush, on the final drain you end up with 1/2 the system still full of clean water by just dropping the lower hose. If you add 3.5 gallons of straight coolant you end up with a perfect 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. if you use the premix you end up with 25% antifreeze/ 75% water.

To get a 50/50 mix.
After you finish flushing with distilled water, there will be water left in the system. Add 3.5 gallons of ELC concentrate then finish topping off with distilled water. The system takes 7 gallons.

Makes sense. Thanks.

But you could just drain the block and run premix, right? Or will there still be too much distilled water remaining in the system? -Mike

There would still be too much water in there to get a good 50/50 mix. If you get concentrate you can be very close to exact.

Expect a lot of questions when you ask for the concentrate. It seems we are the only ones buying it. It will also more than double the cost of the 50/50. I got mine at the CAT dealer. I was amazed at the reasonable price until I realized they had pulled the 50/50 - to save me some money and the hassle of diluting it myself. Hardest part of the project was getting the Restore, VC-9 and ELC concentrate. Turns out CAT sells a system cleaner that works like vc-9. Anyway good luck.
