newbie suspension question

I just bought a 64 f100 4x4 and haven't got it home yet but was making plans and need to know about the front axle and suspension. is it solid axle, ttb, open or closed knuckle, leaf spring or coil, and drums or discs. thanks in advance. I am looking forward to doing this build and sharing on this site.

64 F100 will be a Spicer 44 with closed knuckles and leaf spring suspension if still stock. After fifty years it can be just about anything.

To be a true factory four wheel drive the VIN number will start with F11.

thanks guys. my 14 year old and myself are building it for his first truck, he want it bada$$ and I want it safe. disc brakes all the way around are a must. I have a set of excursion axles laying around that would work great and could swap them cheaper than doing the conversion an all 4 corners.lots of stuff to come

What year Excursion axles? Leaf or coil mount?

The later model (Super Duty) Dana drivers side drop front axles have barely enough room for a leaf spring perch, could be a problem with the narrower 64 frame if you were thinking about trying to retain the factory leaf spring mounts.

Spend some time over here if you want see some good examples of how any axle can be put underneath anything with some fabrication:

I have done this swap several times. I will widen the spring mounts on the frame. its actually a pretty easy swap. I have a set under my 61 scout 80 right now. thanks
