Looking at buying a 1986 6.9l

Hi all as the title states I'm looking at buying a 1986 6.9l. I've been doing a little research and what I've found so far is that this year was a really good year for this engine, also it should average about 15-20MPG, and best things to do to these is increase exhaust size and Air Intake. I've also read these have the same power as a 351 (which I currently have) and the MPG as an I6.

The truck I'm looking at is a 1986 F250 with the 6.9l, 4x4, Ext Cab-Long Bed, 4 Speed Manual, with a little rusting on cab corners and fenders but bed is clean. Now the only thing I'm some what skeptical about is the mileage which is 250,000. He told me it had a once over about 10,000 miles ago and fixed all the problems but he never mentioned the tranny. Are these transmissions good for this long? It also has a plow frame on it and has a plow so that's what led to some worry meant.

Overall he wanted $2,000 for it but he said he could do $1,400. This seems like a fairly cheap truck and would make a good work truck.

Welcome! And congrats in advance! Sounds like a good price on a good truck there!

That mileage really isn't anything to worry about, taken care of these IDIs go an easy 300-400K, and many have reported twice that.

That transmission is a T19, it's durable and will last almost forever as long as it has oil and no one has severely abused it.

I had an 86 with a 6.9/4spd and sold it to a buddy, it's got just over 200k and shows no signs of stopping. That truck looks and sounds like a dang good deal for $1400. If you don't need the plow, you can always sell it and get most of your money back.

Going by appearance and everything stated how much would you all think a normal price for a truck like this would be?
