trans oil cooler?
I am getting a used transmission for my 02 f150 5.4 auto 4x4 wuith 4r70w tranny. The place im getting it from will only warranty it if i put an aftermarket transmission cooler on it. A couple questions:
1. where does it mount to?
2. do you think a $45 one from advance would suffice?
I always just thought they all had them on them but apparaently i may be wrong. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Did you look in the area in front of the A/C condenser?
It will be about 8x10" with hoses.
That is the area you will put one in if aftermarket.
The cooling 'return line' from the radiator back to the transmission has to be opened near the radiator and new cooler lines placed in series with that return line.
How to tell feed from return at the radiator:
Put trans. in gear hold brakes firm, place in gear and hard load the trans for about 30 seconds.
Feel the lines at the radiator.
The one that feels warmer is the feed out of the trans.
Place the new cooler in series with the 'less warm' return line.
Advise you put a small flare on the ends of the metal lines.
This will hold the hoses in place from blowing off, and double clamp all connections.
Recheck the clamps tightness a week or so later and for while after because the hoses relax with heat and time.
Be sure to use the proper hose type for this application.
Good luck.
