So when I bought my truck, the used truck dealership waxed the hood while it was still hot so it it melted and now that it's cooled down its caked on there. The paint looks kind of dis-colored in spots, but I can rub my finger on the dis colored spots, and the wax rubs off and returns to its original color. What would be the easiest way to fix this dis coloration? Remove the wax completely and re wax it? Or is there some kind of polish that I can apply.

This week is looking like it will be highs of -1 or 0, and low of -8 or so. (Celsius)

I want to do this without damaging the paint, so any recommendations, or past experiences is very much appreciated.

My suggestion is to avoid using a high speed polisher because it could damage those areas that don't have any wax. I would give the hood a good wax with mild soap and water and then rewax the area.

Agree with above...use dish soap such as dawn (which does not have any chlorine) and hot water...it should soften and dissolve rather quickly.

If for some reason it doesn't, even after a good soaking, in the cool shade, get a sponge and wipe the hood with mineral spirits....it will soften & dissolve the wax, as long as you do not leave the MS on the paint & allow to dry, you will be fine, make sure it does not contact any stickers, tape pin stripe, etc...then wash with soap/water.

I wouldn't touch it until it warms up. If it really bothers you, take it to a detail shop.
