As long as you check it out thoroughly before ya buy it you should be fine. My son has a 92 350 with 460 4*4 cc with 270k on it. He had to get tranny (auto) rebuilt last summer & had a small oil leak around dipstick fixed but otherwise been trouble free. Also did water pump a year ago. Dont think you'd want a smaller engine in that rig especially if you're getting a camper, same mileage with less power.

I have a '96 F250 4x4 with a 460 and a C6 non-overdrive trans with 4.10 gears. I've only had it since august but so far the best I've got is 8.1 mpg. When towing my 4000lb trailer I get around 6.7 mpg.
But if its power you want you wont go wrong with the 460. I love driving mine but I sure am glad its not my daily driver.

If it were me I would check it over good. Look for signs of it being used as a tow rig. I know those E4OD trans can be built up to last but in stock form I think they are OK. I myself do not like an automatic transmission. I would be looking to convert it. Otherwise I feel you have one heck of a stout truck. Like others have said they do love gas. Yet they have plenty of power.
Not sure how "rare" it is. I have seen one in local pick n pull. About an 89. There was one locally for sale bout a 96 but couldn't afford it. Mine has been converted using an 89 as a donor. I have. also seen a hand full that were 2wd.

I've got a 460 E4OD truck and I love it. I'd daily it but 10 MPG kills me.
BTW, the majority of people that complain about the E4OD's are the owners that have high mileage ones and they're factory transmissions. Lol. I've seen 'em last over 250,000 miles behind diesels before, and I live in a very hilly agricultural area. Meaning that trucks get USED. Just stay on top of servicing it and put a big trans cooler on it. E4OD's build up a lot of heat, that's really their only downfall. BTW, '95 was updated and better than the '89-94 models, so try to get a '95-97 truck if you want to get the best selection of the E4OD

My 97 is great. Shes my DD and put her to work as needed. Gas milage sucks, but I have crunched the numbers, and it is still cheaper to drive everyday, than buying a cheap commuter to run back and forth to work, and seeing as I no longer have a $500/mo truck payment like I did when I had a brand new truck, i'll stick with this...
Its a good engine, and lasts a long time, because it never has to work that hard...
As long as its been maintained, you're good to go!
