460?

Just sold my '05 duramax and have found a 96 cab chassis f350 with a 460. The duramax was a crew cab 4x4 dually with an allison auto and never got good fuel economy. The 96 is a 2wd with a 5spd tranny. I know gears have a factor, and a chassis cab will probably have at least 4.10 but should I at least be able to pull off 10mpg empty?....I think I have given up on diesels.....just don't want a 5mpg truck.

10 mpg isn't too far off. I saw a link the other day about a 460 getting 14 or 15 mpg, but they really had to work for it.

5mpg on the duramax... something wrong there...

But yes, you can usually top 10mpg with the 460. With a 50-50 mix of city-highway driving, I pull off about 11-ish average.

10 is easily within reach. 5 on a duramax? Were you towing 10,000 pounds all the time with it to get that number?

Wasn't getting 5 in the duramax, but going from diesel to gas I don't want to get 5 in the gas.
