7.3 psd going to replace a 6.0 in am '03

f450 '03 with 230k on it and got this as a non running truck with the intention of swapping the 7.3 motor/zf6 into it to replace the 6.0 and a/t trans. Wondering if the wiring is the same for the firewall back as well as the idm. I do have a complete cab sitting around here with the clutch pedals / tunnel , complete wiring harnesses and pcm/idm. I believe the pcm is the same platform and wondering if the dash harnesses were the same wire schematics, thanks bunches, ROn

I will be corrected if I am wrong, but I don't think there are too many things that will swap from a 6.0 to a 7.3. Going from heavily electrical to not so much. I have heard of these swaps happening more and more though. Hope it goes well for ya.

the motor parts are completely different, as well the bell housing patterns. I have heard of many instances of the 7.3 programmers such as sct that are able to tune both the 6.0 and the 7.3's as this is a pcm based program . I actually bought a 6.0 sct tuner and it was able to tune the 7.3 in my '01. SO getting back to the swap stuff, i'm basically removing 6.0 engine, trans and disconnection everything and then installing the different trans and motor. First is to cut out the 6 speed tunnel from the donor cab because the auto trans tunnel is too shallow. and then on to the instal, using the pcm from the '03 as this is a digital odometer and the donor cab is a 99
. thought someone on here would chime in from a previous experience.

I personally have not done this swap, but from spending alot of time under the hoods of my 99s with 7.3s and my friends 6.0, I think you would need the complete computer and IDM and engine harness for the 7.3 because the 6.0 engine controls are way different.

You will need to swap everything from the donor truck. Engine, trans, modules, engine harness, under hood harness, cab harness, Instrument cluster, GEM, HVAC controls, switches etc.

The 2002 and later trucks have a completely different electrical system compared to the '99-'01 models.

I'm interested in this. I am in the process of buying a 2004 cab to replace a rusted 2001 cab. From what I can gather, there is a difference in sheetmetal on the firewall...the area where the 7.3 pcm protrudes through the firewall. It's been relayed to me that cutting a 12" x 12" panel from the 7.3 truck and installing it in the 6.0 firewall will solve that.

And as other have said.....prepare to take the dash, and related engine harness' from a 7.3 donor truck and put in in the 6.0 truck as Shake-N-Bake has said.

didn't realize the '02 and newer dynamics, so it might just be easier to put the entire '99 cab on there and save some time.

You're going to have vin plate issues if you go that way.
