TRANSMISSION LEAKING OUT THE FRONT

TRANSMISSION LEAKING OUT THE FRONT
Hello I have 1969 f-250, 390, c-6 camper special. Trans is leaking fluid out the front like a sieve. Truck sat for years in gentleman's back yard before I got it. I need to pull trans to replace seals. Can I get it out with just the front driven up on standard ramps. Its my first time doing this type of project. I've been reading a lot of info on it and think I'm ready to attack. Also what year c-6's will fit incase new one is needed. THX David

I expect you've checked this, but could the leak be at the filler tube? I had to use silicone sealer there on a later trans. Even a new o-ring leaked without the sealer.
If you intend to remove the front pump (not an easy task without a special puller) stand the trans on its tail or things can fall apart.

The c6 we just resealed didn't fall apart when it was standing on its tail. Bro and I were resealing it but couldn't get the front pump out so he called a friend who's a pro. That's when we learned its a good thing we didn't get the front pump out. We took it to the pro to get the front pump out and the seal replaced.

I rebuilt my trans a few months ago. It was a job. I don't have a big shop or a lot of tools. Just my little garage. If the transmission is shifting great you might just get away with replacing the front pump seal. You should also replace the front seal. It wears over time and can also cause a leak.
I jacked my truck up front and back as high as I could. You want to keep it level as possible. When you go to put it back in you will see what I mean. I would not run just the front up on ramps. I used a motorcycle jack to remove and reinstall my transmission. I have seen it done with a floor jack and some wood as a platform. You just have to be real carefully. It is a lot of work. Go on you tube and watch some videos of transmission rebuilds and removals before you try it. Good luck.
