Using too much fuel.

99 F250 SD v-10 Reg.Cab
It was and is running good just using too much fuel.
New fuel pump last 2000 mi.
Had a return hose(think it's a return hose) wear through and the fuel economy went down.
Fixed that and it helped for a while.
Now the hoses all are ok and it's bad on fuel again.
There is a container on the front left that is hooked into the system for some reason.
There is some kind of valve on the other side hooked on the condenser.
Both lead to the "return lines" going to the tank.
What does the tank and valve do?

How can I post pics?

Charcoal canister for emissions. It catches the fumes and filters the smell.

That is the key. Host the pics elsewhere on the net - like photobucket - and then paste the URL in using the picture icon (little yellow square with a mountain peak).

Paying members can cut and paste.

I used to use FTE to host my pics in galleries, but it's cumbersome and nowhere near as quick as Photobucket.

Try this for photo of the parts.
The canister/charcoal filter does it ever go bad?
How about the other part?

I've had to replace several on 2002-2003 5.4 Superdutys. I think the main issue is topping up the gas tank too full.

Thanks for posting the pic.
How about the other pic?
What's it do?
It's connected to the same system.

Not sure which item you are referring to, but what makes you suspect a fuel leak? Are you smelling fuel?

The V-10 is not noted for good fuel economy.

The 2nd posted picture is the evaporative emissions purge valve. It opens and closes the charcoal canister. If the canister is submerged in fuel the truck will always smell like gas.

Also, when the valve opens the engine will run in a super rich state. The O2 sensor should make up for that, but again as mentioned the V10 isn't known as a gas miser.

I know they aren't the best on gas but the hauling I do needed a bigger motor.
The truck gets 8 on a good day.
Usually it gets 12-14
17 if the injectors are serviced.
While driving I smell gas but can't find where it's leaking(if it's leaking)?
I never put in any more than 10gal at a time.
It's a local driver and is used driving short distance.Maybe 25 at a time.
Thanks for the replies.
