6637 intake

How often do you change your 6637 air filter ?
I've been blowing mine out with the air hose every oil change, I still change oil a 5000 miles.
THANKS,

I have heard that that is a very bad thing to do, especially to a paper filter. Blowing compressed air through them will separate the fibers and allow bigger particles through the media. Bad Idea. You are not saving any money by blowing your motor up.

I keep mine covered with one of Petes pre-filter covers. My filters last a long time. I bought 2 of the covers & clean & swap them out them every oil change.

Agree completely with this. You could play it safe by lightly tapping loose dust and dirt off against a hard surface. Or just spend $2x.xx on a new one if it's that questionable.

I'm new to the 6637, Do you throw the cover in the washer with regular detergent and call it a day?

yup.
the last filter i changed had 45,000 miles on it and was still clean enough that i put it in the 88 because the old filter in the 88 was on it's last legs.
i wash the filter covers once a year.

I just wash them in the slop sink with some dawn detergent & hang to dry.

Good to know, Thanks. Also wanted to confirm my 2nd guessing on the filter, Once dirty you should soak it down with water and some kind of cleaner, but once dry no oil? It's paper no water at all…

Scott - I dont do anything to the filter as far as cleaning,Just cleaning the cover. You can use a shop vac to get big stuff off the outer filter surface I guesss but with the cover nothing big gets through to the filter. Def don't use water or oil on a 6637 filter. Hope that helps

The covers are available @ riffraffdiesel.com and I replace my filter once a year in the fall. I don't travel dirt roads that much so it would depend on your travel.
