1981 E 150 Gremlin chewed my Defrost/Floor heat cable

Howdy gang from Oregon, the shower me state.
Years ago when I bought

'Easy Bake' this 'push-pull' cable snapped at the heater box. I was able to pull the end about an inch and reconnected it and it's been working fine since. Well, just as the cooler weather is approaching it broke again. I have yet to find where the break is but I suspect it's down by the heater box (near the core) again.
Does anyone have a resource for these (or just plain old rigid wire) cable? I'd repurpose a metal coathanger but the gauge of wire is too big.

Thanks and a lift of the lynch lid for any responses!

Thanks so much for your quick response JWA. Stuck my fat head under the dash yesterday during one of the few sun breaks and noted that the cable was still connected at the heater box where I'd repaired it about 12 years ago. I seem to recall that there's an intermediate cable connection between the Temperature control lever and the heater box. When I have a brief amount of time this weekend I'll pull the dash and investigate further. In the meantime I can control the heater box door by hand.
