Is there a special trick to removing the EGR valve?

Been trying to pull this thing. Get the connector off and remove the bolts but I can't get it out. Not even with a small flat pry bar. Is there some trick to getting this thing out that I'm not aware of. Didn't see anything special in the tech folder but then again there's so much stuff in the tech folder I could've overlooked it. Any tricks or special instructions? Does it need to be cold or hot?
Thanks
Bill

This makes it extremely easy!

Believe it was Cheezit who told me to use it a few years ago.

Thats what mine looked like last year. I don't think the one in my 03 ever looked that bad. That was out of my 07.

There are YouTube videos for removing the EGR. Do a search, watch videos and they show how to remove easily. Don't have the links. Believe one was by dieselteckRon. His are always pretty informative.

I just get that bar under one of the bolt tabs and pry it up, very simple. I believe dieselteckron uses one of the other bars in that set to get his out.

I always use a old coat hanger and pry bar. Just turn the egr valve so the bolt holes are open then run each end of the hanger through the holes and twist with pliers. Then using a 3 foot pry bar lever against the alternator bracket and give it a couple of jerks upward and she'll pop right out.

A baby food jar is a perfect size to fill with carb cleaner and soak the EGR valve in.

If you look closely at Rollerstud98's photo, you can see 2 little holes under the valve body.

Don't get fluid in those.

Enjoy!

And what if you DO get FLUID in the HOLES??

If you have the money, Why go through the trouble to take the egr out to clean it rather then to delete?

A delete is a TON more work than a simple cleaning.

If you do get fluids in the holes you can ruin the valve electronics.

The egr VALVE is easy to remove and then clean or replace.

The egr COOLER is what folks delete, and then the egr valve is a none issue.

Of topic here but, one of you guys mentioned an EGR cooler delete. What about just putting a block off plate between the exhaust and the EGR cooler. Seems very inexpensive and simple.
