Traded the Ex for F-150
I just traded the 01 Excursion for a 2011 f-150 Lariat 4x4. I wanted to check with you guys to see what beneficial mods to do. it currently has a leveling kit and the tires are Nitto Trail Grappler 295 65r 20. I will go down a size and more street AT tire. i like the BFGoodrich rugged terrain. The current MPG is terrible @ 13.1 at 75 mph... anyway, thinking of air filter, tires, exhaust?, tuner?... would like to keep on the least expensive side. thanks.

Congrats on the truck, what engine you get? With that kind of mileage I'm guessing the 6.2L, although that would be low even for that engine
There are no real "gotta have it" mods, as the trucks come pretty stout from the factory. The stock exhaust flows plenty, as does the stock paper air filter. After market will get you a louder intake and louder exhaust note, but not extra power (some even loose a little low-end torque and some mileage).
I can't comment on the tuner, don't have one or plan to get one.

You can't get high MPG's driving that fast.
I have a 2011 XLT Supercrew 5.0, 3.55 gears, 5.5 bed, 4x4.
I suggest 17 or 18 inch rims and the appropriate size AT tires, Bilstein HD shocks, Hellwig 1801 springs for the rear to reduce axle wrap, 4 new 6x8 speakers in the doors, a 4 channel amp to drive them, a 2 channel amp to drive 2 10 inch subs, a Rockford Fosgate 3sixty.3 processor, 100% synthetic lubes throughout, an AMP Research bed step, Rampage Stirrup Steps, Fumoto oil drain valve, a Mag-Hytec dif cover for the rear, a DashMat dash cover, WeatherTech floor mats, tow mirrors with chrome caps and pinstripes

Congrats on the new truck! I also went from an Excursion to an F150, and I couldn't be happier!
You're not going to see any fuel economy increases with an air intake or exhaust; the factory designs are very efficient. Smaller tires will certainly help your fuel economy as will driving a little bit slower.

Agreed with what is already said about filters/exhaust. The only benefits would be noise (if you consider that to be a benefit, that is...) Most aftermarket filters will only gum up the engine, MAF, etc. Stick with the paper.
As for tuners, I have heard great things about 5 Star tuning. Search this site for more info on them. As for tires, the new Toyo All terrains have gotten great reviews, and even come with (I believe) a 45,000 mile warranty. I love my MTs, but mileage has suffered, and I plan to get the ATs next time. Congrats!

F150 changes
We all have opinions on what you can do to make the truck better. I checked your location. Assuming your in the Dallas area your obviously doing a lot of highway driving and looking for better fuel mileage. The specs on your tire depending on whether it's P rated or LT are between 34 1/2 and 35 1/2 inches tall. That based with the weight of the tire certainly have effect on actual mileage. An A/T tire around 32 inches is closer to spec and should affect mileage gains. I'm running Yokohama Geolander A/Ts in 32 1/2 diameter. Typical mileage for highway at speeds between 70-75 am seeing typical fuel mileage above 17 mpg and frequently in the 19 mpg range.
Good luck whatever you decide to do. Ken
