idle problem & PSOM
I would appreaciate any and all help with the following problems:
1) erractic speedometer
2) Truck (1995 F250 351W E4OD 2WD) stalls when put in reverse (most times) and sometimes idle fails and engines stalls when in "gear".
easter-egg history:
I replaced the VSS in the rearend ..no change
I removed and cleaned the Idle Air Control valve ..no change
I replaced several cracked vaccum hoses such as the purge canister hoses
that use manifold vaccum. ...no joy
Had some mechanics analyze these problems:
They said it was a leaking intake manifold gasket, then a weak fuel pump
Pulled codes and said it was a bad EGR valve.
Had all of this replaced, and the Idle-Air control vavle.
Problem still persisted.
I got tired of looking at the speedometer jump all over the place so I removed the fuse for it (I used the speed indicator on my gps), the tach still worked.
LOW & BEHOLD... my idle problems and stalling in reverse VANISHED!!!
However I lost my overdrive and my gas milage plunged (I was only getting 18 mpg with OD)
But I found that if I held the OD button on the gear shift "in" I could get OD. But that's tiresome if you're driving more than 15 miles.
Soooo I replaced the fuse. Got the OD function back and the idle/reverse
problems returned.
Now I'm wondering if there's a way "jumper" around the PSOM and still use
the OD.
As I said any and all suggestions/comments are welcome.

Get a replacement PSOM from the junkyard. My 95 F150 300/M5OD 2wd did basically the same thing, (once I figured out what the problem was with the help of members on here, and verified by pulling fuses) the replacement fixed all my stalling problems.
The only drawback is that ti shows more mileage than the truck actually has, but there is a link in the thread I linked ot that may have a solution to that (I haven't followed up on it).
