Engine Stand Faceplate

Ok, I'm sure it's just me, but how do I mount an engine stand faceplate onto my 292?

I have the clutch and flywheel off, but the faceplate that I have does not seem to have long enough 'arms' to reach the bell housing mounting holes

I must be doing something wrong, or am trying to mount it in the wrong location; I am trying to keep the center of gravity right so when I turn the engine it won't get all that interesting.

This is a home built stand that I borrowed, so it could be that. On that note; has anyone used the harbor freight engine stands with their 292?

Any help, pics, or such would be appreciated.

Just some background; I'm in the midst of a frame off restoration of my 1963 F100 4x4 and pulled the engine so I could blast and paint the frame. I couldn't see dropping the nasty engine back in, and had to replace the clutch anyway, so I thought I'd go ahead and clean it up, paint it, etc.

I do have a floor stand from Stumpy's Fabrication Works, but it is almost on the ground and makes it tough to work on.

Thanks in advance for any help

Do you have any pictures of the stand you are attempting to use?

Here is a picture of my Y-Block on a Harbor Freight stand. Sorry not the best picture of the stand, but it's the only on I have.

Well, I broke down and used my 25% Off coupon at Harbor Freight.
I got the 2000-lb Engine stand and it fit fine.

The home build one had too small of 'arms' and couldn't reach far enough across the block.

In any case, the HF one works great.

For anyone considering this version, it has 4 wheels and folds up. The downside is trying to get it work with a folding hoist - the legs get all tangled up..

I ended up using the folding crane to get it off the floor, wheeled it out to my gantry crane and then used that to get it installed onto the stand. A few more steps but it worked...

Get a longer handle for turning the engine over. You might find something at home depot in their small metal section and if you have an actual metal place near you, go there.
