Jacking the F250

Dumb question here. I haven't had to jack my truck yet, which is good because my floor jack won't even touch the frame when fully extended. I just need something to get a wheel or two off of the ground at a time and I am wondering if a 4 ton jeep jack would do the trick. The bumper seems pretty darn heavy, can I jack it from the front and/or rear bumper?

Jacking by the bumper is dangerous and Ford's front bumpers won't hold the weight. The rear's probably would.

I use a floor jack under the axle.

The rear bumper bolts on with a slotted connection to allow for adjustment. It can't take the weight and can/will pop the bumper up if you lift from it. Then it will be crooked and can damage the tailgate when it is lowered.

Lift from the axles whenever possible. Hi-lift type jacks are very sketchy and should only be a last resort.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Never thought about jacking the axles. I would never do that to my cars, but the simplistic suspension of these trucks must allow for it.

No problem. Also, if you want to get the tires off the ground, lifting by the axles means you only need to lift a couple inches. If you lift from the frame you have to unload the suspension before the tire lifts.

If you wanna lift say a back wheel, jack right under the shock tower, i've always done this with no issue. If you want both wheels off the ground at once, jack under the differential.
